OK we admit it. Over here at ClanCunningham.UK we don’t know much about American football. With so many clan members being fans of the sport and living in America, it’s time to change this and start to cover what is happening in the sport.Â
Â
To begin we review Zach Cunningham’s new one year deal with the Eagles.Â
Â
Zach Cunningham (Zachery Daniel Cunningham) is a linebacker, which in American football is a critical part of the defensive lines, and it is where the most versatile players are placed. Central linebackers (quarterbacks) are often best placed to see how the game is developing and often direct the team’s defensive plays.
Â
Zach began to show his talents early, by being the first person to be unanimously selected as All-American in School history. He then graduated from Pinson Valley High School, and was picked in 2017 to play for the Houston Texans in the second round draft. Upon signing he received a $4.47 million contract with $2.06 million guaranteed.
Â
However, it was only in 2018 that he became a starting inside linebacker, after Brian Cushing retired. In the 2018 season he managed 107 tackles and five pass breakups and one interception. These numbers increased in 2019, when he recorded 142 tackles. His numbers and movement was so good that in 2020 the Texans then gave Zach a $58 million extension, with $23.5 million guaranteed, making him a megastar and the highest paid inside linebacker in the NFL. Unfortunately, things did not go so well in 2021 and Cunningham played only 8 games, and in late 2021 he moved to the Tenessee Titans, where he played until August 6th 2023, and is now part of the Philadelphia Eagles. We at Clan Cunningham wish Zach all the best and a successful year at his new club.
